(Newser) – His wife and kids have moved out, and now his career path looks a little shaky, too. "I'm dead politically," South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford told a radio station today. "I am not running for another office." Sanford made the rounds of local stations today, defending his travels on the state dime and talking about adjusting to living solo in the governor's mansion, reports CNN. "That part's hard," he said.

"There are consequences for any mess-up that we have in life, and that's one of them. That's probably the most bitter part of it." Sanford said he and wife Jenny decided she would take their four boys out of the "fishbowl" to Charleston for the school year. As for the controversy over using state planes for personal use, the governor said that his predecessors had abused the privilege even more and that he's being held to a different standard because of his scandal.

They've been subjected to a lot this summer. That was a result of my actions, but nonetheless it put them in a spot they really didn't want to be. - Mark Sanford, speaking of his sons

As a S. Carolina resident I say screw him. As I see it he was trying to cut his state off at the knee saying that you can take your stimulus money and stuff it. YET it's ok to screw the Spanish hottie and jet around on the public dime getting damn haircuts and what not? Fiscal responsibility my ass. Boo-frickin-hoo. BTW I'd give him a little more credit if he'd just move to Argentina to be with the mistress.

Wow! How old is he? His predicesors abused it even more. HAS HE EVER HEARD THE SAYING: "TWO WRONGS DON'T MAKE A RIGHT". What a moron. South Carolina, you have a completely self absorbed fool in your hen house.
