Kabul Embassy Fires 8 Guards Over Nude Parties

(AP) – The US Embassy in Afghanistan says it has fired eight security guards following allegations of lewd behavior and sexual misconduct at their living quarters. The management team of the private contractor that provides the guards is also "being replaced immediately," officials at the Kabul embassy said today. The eight fired guards immediately left the country.

Two other guards resigned and also left. All of them appeared in photographs that depicted guards and supervisors in various stages of nudity at parties flowing with alcohol. The scandal surfaced this week when an independent watchdog group, the Project on Government Oversight, said guards were subjected to abuse and hazing by supervisors.

@greg - I know they were hazed. I'm with ya there. I just can't imagine doing things like that, no matter how they threatened me, if those things were against my grain. I don't understand a heterosexual man allowing this to happen to him if he is truly heterosexual. If it were prison for example, ok, I could get that. Not much choice there. But this is not prison and with today's high tech, it wouldn't take much to expose.....well, it's been done, hasn't it? :o)

Living under oppressive conditions often results in silly, inane, crazy, juvenile, methods of "relaxation." It looks like gallows humor. If it was on their own time, then we should not be seeing this. If they were on duty, well, then, that's another situation. Reminds me of the scene from South Pacific -"I'm gonna wash that man right outa my hair." without the coconut bras. Big deal.
