Palestinians, Jews Clash at Holy Site

Civilians, police injured in Jerusalem confrontation

Share

(Newser) – Palestinian civilians and Israeli police were injured when Jews and Arabs clashed at a Jerusalem holy site yesterday. Palestinians praying at the site—which includes the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa mosques—pelted a Jewish group with rocks, leading police to respond with stun grenades, reports CNN. The Palestinians' chief negotiator blamed the Jews for a deliberate provocation. Nine years ago today, Ariel Sharon visited the site and set off some of the worst violence in years.

History shows that it was a holy site to the Jews over 1000 years before Islam became a religion.

palestinians and jews fighting is not "news". news is a peace treaty between palestinians and jews. and look, palestinians can also multi-task - they can pray *and* pelt jews with stones at the same time. their god must be so proud. *rolls eyes* Reply

Haaretz provides the following: "Providing a police escort for settlers who are against peace at all costs, and whose presence is deliberately designed to provoke a reaction, are not the actions of someone who is committed to peace, but of someone who will go to extraordinary lengths to scuttle all hopes of peace," Erakat said. He said it was "deliberately timed to coincide with the eve of the anniversary of that visit" by a government "emboldened by its ability to fend off calls for a settlement freeze".
