Fox Ratings Soar After Obama Tiff

Conservative station still trounces cable news competitors

(Newser) – Maybe Roger Ailes is on Barack Obama’s Christmas list. His administration sure seems to have given Fox News a gift anyway; in the two weeks since Anita Dunn publicly slammed the network, its ratings are up 9% overall, and 14% among the all-important 25-to-54 demographic. Shepard Smith’s show may have had its best month of the year. And as usual Fox trounced its cable news competitors, sweeping the top 13 cable news timeslots.

“It must be depressing for folks like Olbermann and Chris Matthews, on MSNBC, how few people watch them,” opines Joe Weisenthal of Businessweek.

Fox usually has high ratings. They've been able to bribe their way into basic cable while MSNBC & CNN are more expensive to access. Fox Fringe is not really a news station either. It's more like gossip & tabloid TV. There's a lot or very rich people who use Fox to promote extremism. Not all who watch Fox believe in what they see & hear. Their audience is older & some of those viewers do not use a computer to access information. Reply

Time will tell. But anybody selling anything from soap to news will tell you that the hardest part of selling is getting people to look at your product the first time. If Fox picks up another percentage point or two over the long term, they'll call this a win. Because it is.

Again for the sake of rationality, ratings means nothing. If fox's ratings were meangingful, then how did a black liberal with an arab sounding name trounce an old conservative white war hero and his beauty queen hockey mom partner in the last election? How can fox's numbers mean anything when the House and Senate are firmly in the control of the democrats? I view fox numbers like I view Narco terrorist and mafia don numbers...sure the Columbian and Mexican drug cartels and the mafia makes money hand over fist compared to mom and pop small business operations here in the states but does that mean the dope dealers and the mafia are better business people than small mom and pop legitimate businesses? No way, no day! And winning a cable ratings war means what again to the national overal direction of the country? If they get a 1% bump, its still less than 2% of the population even watching cable news as a whole. And as polls also point out, most liberal viewers watch any number of news channels whereas fox viewers seldom stray from the corral! And like my wife says, "we have a life thats not in front of a television watching a single channel"....and my wife's always right! Reply

There have been so many incidents during the primaries and election where MSM focused on getting him elected. If he made mistakes they would justify it. They were even kind to Biden after his many gaffes. However, they pounced on both Clintons, McCain and Palin unmercifully. I don't dislike Obama, but I don't appreciate the MSM trying to cram him down my throat.
