(Newser) – Maj. Nidal Hasan cleaned out his off-base apartment in the days before yesterday’s shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, giving away many of his possessions to a neighbor, whom he told he was headed for Iraq and had no need of them. Patricia Villa tells the New York Times she got an air mattress, shelves, even frozen vegetables and a Koran from Hasan.

Hasan called another neighbor at 5 yesterday morning to thank him “for being a good friend and thank him for being there for him,” the man’s girlfriend tells AP. The manager of the apartment building says Hasan, 39, also refused to take back his security deposit, wanting it instead to go to someone in need.

It is extremely sad that every day in this world there seems to be more and more and more people that are aggravated / upset / pissed off enough to commit such violent acts If this nut was a psychiatrist he should have had the sense to shrink his own mind and if things were that bad he should have just quietly taken his own life and left the innocent victims out of his problems .

most people expect to come back from Iraq. this guy's fear and anxiety probably did everyone already in Iraq a favor. Whether he was already or not, the man's mental stability and background make him an ideal target for espionage.

I paid a shrink three hundred bucks an hour to keep an eye on my son--twice a week. Suicide is so random and useless. The only goal I had and it was well worth the money was that he took no one but him. As more people get overwhelmed by circumstances and aren't actually suicidal by nature, we will see more of this. Personally, if we were an older country we'd get rid of the guns like Europe. But we are a baby of a country and it will take many years and many dead to let go of the gun.
