Multi-agency crackdown snares more than 600 adults involved in '21st century slavery'

(Newser) - A huge nationwide crackdown has smashed apart a dozen child prostitution rings and rescued 47 juveniles, the Washington Post reports. The joint effort from the FBI, Justice Department, and local law enforcement agencies led to the arrest of more than 600 adults in 29 cities, including 73 pimps. Ten of the children appear on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's registry. More »

It rescues 21 kids, arrests hundreds of adults in 16 cities

(AP) - Hundreds of people have been arrested and 21 children rescued in what the FBI is calling a five-day roundup of networks of pimps who force children into prostitution. In all, authorities arrested 345 people, including 290 adult prostitutes, during the operation that ended this week in 16 major cities. "The sex trafficking of children remains one of the most violent and unforgivable crimes in this country," said FBI chief Robert Mueller. More »

(Newser) - Four Chicago-area men were charged today with running a Craigslist prostitution ring that included girls who were high school freshmen and sophomores. The perps are accused of pimping at least 11 women under the popular site’s “erotic services” section, the Chicago Tribune reports. “If you’re looking for exploitation at its absolute worst, this is it,” said a county sheriff.
