At Aussie Auto Race, Fans Allowed Just 24 Beers a Day

Limit jumps to 36 light brews for 4-day Bathurst 1,000

(Newser) – Fans headed to a four-day event that’s a highlight of the Australian auto-racing calendar will only be allowed one case of beer per day—or 36 cans if it’s light beer. “Wine lovers have not escaped the heavy hand of the law either,” the Guardian notes of those bound for the Bathurst 1,000, beginning Thursday, “being restricted to a punitive four liters a day.”

The four-day Bathurst 1,000 is near and dear to the hearts of Australian racing fans.

This is one of the greatest motorsport events in Australia and for some it is a pilgrimage that they make every year. Police respect people's rights to enjoy the race weekend, but will promptly act when the law is broken. - Police official Alan Clarke

I don't know how they are going to police that. The Bathurst track is called Mount Panorama and is, as the name suggests, held on a mountain...a four mile stretch of track on a mountain. It's probably a good idea that they try to crack down on the amount of alcohol consumed as the joint gets very violent at times, but I don't think their chances are very high. Here's a bit of a scoot around an amazing racetrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_78NrSGBudI Reply

Sounds quite reasonable to me bearing in mind that all light beers are very weak piss. The top selling Aussie light beer was reviewed something along the lines of - A great beer if you are trying to lose weight as frequent trips to the facilities will be required. It goes through you like a Fijian prop-forward (rugby analogy for the non-sportif). A real winner for those that like to urinate frequently. Reply
