Detectives investigating the British phone hacking scandal are examining a laptop, phone, and paperwork found dumped in a garbage can near the home of busted former News International Chief Rebekah Brooks, the Guardian reports. Brooks' husband says the bag belongs to him and claims it somehow ended up in the trash in an underground parking lot near their home after a friend who was returning it to him left it in the wrong place.

The bag was found and handed in to parking lot security staff, who called police after Brooks' husband tried to reclaim it but could not prove it was his. Brooks, who was released on bail early yesterday after being arrested on charges of corruption and conspiring to intercept communications, is due to join Rupert and James Murdoch for a grilling by Britain's Parliament today.
