Justine Henin ousted Venus Williams from the US Open yesterday in a hard-fought semifinal match that ended 7-6 (2), 6-4 for Henin. Venus set out to avenge Henin’s quarterfinal win over her sister Serena, but instead fell to the top-seeded Belgian just as her sister had. Henin faces Svetlana Kuznetsova in the final.

With this victory, the diminutive Henin becomes  the second woman ever to beat both Williams sisters at the same Grand Slam tournament. "I just went with my heart. I kept fighting," Henin said of the pounding serves and deft all-court play that earned her win. Henin goes into Saturday's final heavily favored against No. 4 Kuznetsova.
