First the hackers came for Sony’s PlayStation Network, and now they’ve breached Nintendo. The Japanese company announced today that one of its US website servers was hacked, but no company or customer information was compromised and nothing was damaged. Though the incident is minor compared to the PlayStation hacking and other recent attacks, it does raise questions about whether online services can ever be truly protected from hackers, the Wall Street Journal notes.

Hacker group Lulzsec, which recently claimed to have stolen customer data from Sony, posted a “server configuration file” purportedly from a Nintendo server on the Internet. The group then tweeted that it was not targeting the company, and that “we sincerely hope Nintendo plugs the gap.” A Nintendo spokesperson acknowledged a breach but insisted, “We are always working to make sure our systems are secure.” The attack comes as Nintendo prepares to launch a new online service this week.
