A Houston man told the cop who pulled him over he thought he might have hit something on the freeway, but couldn't be sure. That's when the officer pointed out his shattered windshield and the mangled corpse in his passenger seat, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Investigators believe the 32-year-old victim had pulled his broken-down car into the emergency lane of the freeway around 12:30am. Witnesses report seeing him run back and forth across the road when he got hit by a car that kept on going. A deputy pulled over the suspect for driving without headlights, then noticed the body—without its severed leg. The 45-year-old driver was charged with a DUI and failure to stop and render aid involving a fatality. He faces up to 10 years in prison. The victim's license plate and leg were later found.
