Mercury wasn't the only treat for sky watchers Monday. A fireball streaked through the night sky in the St. Louis area, accompanied by a loud boom, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The apparent meteor zipped by about 8:45pm, and videos immediately began flooding social media. It's likely a result of the Northern Taurids meteor shower, per KMOV. This video captures the fireball with the St. Louis arch for context. (More meteor stories.)
