(Newser) – Add two more names to the list of maybe-candidates among Democrats in the 2020 field. Julian Castro, who served as HUD secretary in the Obama administration and is a former mayor of San Antonio, has formed an exploratory committee and will decide by Jan. 12, reports CBS News. "There are going to be a lot of talented people running and I look forward to making my case to the voters," said Castro, a 44-year-old Mexican American. The second name is a rising star in the party, Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, 37, reports the Washington Post.

"I’m seriously considering it," Gabbard, who the Post notes was one of the first female combat vets to join Congress, said on MSNBC Wednesday night. "I’m concerned about the direction of the country." One of them already cracks the latest top-10 "power rankings" from Chris Cillizza and Harry Enten at CNN. In their view, the top current candidates in descending order are: Kamala Harris, Beto O'Rourke, Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Amy Klobuchar, Sherrod Brown, Castro, and Kirsten Gillibrand. (Biden recently talked about the possibility of officially running.)
