The suspected Russian spy who went missing in Cyprus after being granted bail has likely fled the island, the nation's justice minister says. Christopher Metsos, 54, is accused of acting as a go-between for an espionage ring in the US and Russian handlers. Prosecutors in the US are using Metsos' disappearance in their pleas to deny bail for the remaining 10 suspects, reports the Wall Street Journal.

They're meeting with mixed success. Two of the three suspects who have had bail hearings were denied release, but a judge in New York granted $250,000 bail yesterday to Vicky Pelaez, who's been accused along with her husband. One evidence highlight listed yesterday: A secret recording of suspect "Juan Lazaro," Pelaez's husband, talking to himself aloud at home—and supposedly spilling secrets—as he works out a message to superiors.
