A 2-year-old Chinese girl lies in a coma in a Guandong Province hospital after she was struck—twice—by hit-and-run drivers as passers-by did nothing to help her. The little girl wandered away from her mother into a street near a hardware market in Foshan City and was first hit by a van, then struck a second time minutes later by a truck driver. Neither driver stopped, and 18 people passed the girl until a woman bent to help her and her frantic mother raced to her aid.

An extremely disturbing online film of the tragedy has sparked furious rebukes from the Chinese, reports the New York Times. "What is up with our society?" asked one blogger. "I saw this and my heart went cold." The China Daily has reported that the little girl, Yueyue, is brain dead. "I just hope my child will wake up and call me Dad again," said her father.
