High drama on HBO last night: In the final moments of the documentary series The Jinx, New York real estate heir Robert Durst appears to confess to three murders. After documentary makers presented him with a letter linking him to the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman, Durst went to the bathroom, apparently forgetting he was still wearing a microphone, the Guardian reports. "There it is. You're caught," he says to himself, retching and weeping. "What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course." The 71-year-old was arrested in New Orleans Saturday night on a warrant from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Durst has long been a suspect in the death of Berman and in the 1982 disappearance of his wife Kathie, reports the New York Times. He was acquitted of a 2003 murder on the grounds of self-defense. The producers of The Jinx "did what law enforcement in three states could not do in 30 years," a former district attorney whose office investigated the wife's disappearance tells the Times. "Kudos to them. They were meticulous. They were focused. They were clear." But the Times also reports that the producers didn't find the crucial bathroom audio until two years after the interview, which sounds a little fishy to Rich Juzwiak at Gawker, who wonders if there was a "backend deal cut between the filmmakers, the cops, and HBO so that the cops got their man."
