(Newser) – Two new polls in the 2020 election were drawing attention Tuesday, and both were good news for Joe Biden:

  • Michigan: An EPIC-MRA poll shows Biden up by 16 points in Michigan, reports the Detroit Free Press. The survey ran from May 31 to June 4 and captured public sentiment after President Trump's controversial walk from the White House to a nearby church for a photo op. The poll has Biden up 55% to 39%. A different poll that began just a day earlier gave Biden a smaller edge of 12 points, suggesting that an extra day of negative news coverage affected views, says the pollster for both. Trump won the state in 2016 by a fraction of a percentage point.

  • Iowa: A new Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll has Trump up by 1 point in Iowa, 44% to 43%, reports the Register. However, that's seen as good news for Biden as well because Trump carried the state by 9 points in 2016. Now it's a statistical dead heat. This poll ran from June 7 to June 10. "I think it's obviously nothing that Joe Biden should take for granted, because he's not leading," says pollster J. Ann Selzer. "But if the election were held today, Biden has a far better shot than anybody thought."
  • A skeptic: Democratic Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell says she doesn't believe polls showing Biden with a big lead in her state, reports the Detroit News. She voiced similar concerns about polls showing Hillary Clinton up in the polls in 2016, and "many of you ... thought that I was nuts," Dingell says. "I was in enough communities and heard enough people talking that I was very worried about the outcome of that election.”
