Update: MacKenzie Scott has indeed split with her second husband. The billionaire philanthropist, 52, filed for divorce from science teacher Dan Jewett on Monday after less than two years of marriage, reports CNN. The papers were filed in King County Superior Court in Washington state, though no further details were released. Jewett had recently disappeared from the couple's joint philanthropic efforts.

Our original story from Wednesday follows: The changes were quietly made, but the New York Times took note of them nevertheless. Places where Dan Jewett's name once appeared now make no mention of him. Jewett is the Seattle science teacher who married billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott in March 2021. At that time, Scott's Amazon author bio was changed to mention her new spouse, and a picture of the couple appeared on a newly joint Giving Pledge page. There, Jewett wrote, "In a stroke of happy coincidence, I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know—and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others."

Now, both locations have been edited to remove Jewett's name (though if you search Giving Pledge for it, his name pops up in the search results alongside Scott's; clicking the link returns a page that only features Scott). "What this news means for their marriage and Mr. Jewett's influence over the dispersal of tens of billions of dollars remains, for the moment, uncertain," observes the Times. The paper was unable to get comment from a range of people—from the lawyer who represented Scott in her split from Jeff Bezos to Jewett's friends—but it did note that gift announcements relating to grants and donations made by Scott in August and September didn't include Jewett's name, as former gift announcements have.
