Carla Bruni looked gorgeous at this week's state dinner for Russian president Dmitri Medvedev and his wife, Svetlana. The former model towered over her husband, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, in heels and a green Roland Mouret gown that left little to the imagination—including the fact that she wasn't wearing a bra. This has actually become an issue for public debate on the more uptight side of the English Channel.

"When it comes to breasts, I’m a firm believer in that old saying: a place for everything—and everything in its place," Sarah Vine writes for the Times of London, presumably while clutching her pearls and calling for smelling salts. "In the brouhaha over Carla’s bralessness," counters Hannah Betts, "no one has remarked that she doubtless also went knickerless." To see the ensemble in question, click here.
