Everyone in Hollywood seems to be allergic to gluten—or at least off it—these days. Celebrity practitioners like Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Gwyneth Paltrow have helped propel the gluten-free lifestyle into the spotlight, with more of us mere mortals following suit in an effort to get thin. It's no wonder that avoiding the stuff can help us lose weight: it's in everything from fried chicken to pizza to beer. The Daily Beast lists eight celebs who’ve ousted the difficult-to-digest protein from their diets:

  • Posh: Mrs. David Beckham says she's allergic to dairy, but decided to go gluten-free, too.
  • Zooey Deschanel: She was a vegan for a long time—but her gluten allergy forced her to go “g-free,” and she eventually gave up veganism because her diet was too restrictive.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow: She posts gluten-free recipes on her website, Goop.com, and advocates going g-free as a weight-loss method.
