Zach Wahls argues against amendment to ban same-sex marriage

(Newser) – Zach Wahls began his speech to state lawmakers simply: "I'm a sixth-generation Iowan and an engineering student at the University of Iowa, and I was raised by two women." He moves on to a passionate defense of his family—it "isn't so different than any other Iowa family"—and his upbringing—"If I was your son, Mr. Chairman, I believe I'd make you very proud"—in arguing against an amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state, notes BoingBoing.

"You are voting for the first time in the history of our state to codify discrimination," he says at one point. (It looks like the measure is dead in the water in this session, notes the Des Moines Register.)
