(Newser) – If you see people ducking and covering today, don't panic—they're probably just participating in the "Great ShakeOut," an international earthquake preparedness drill. Around 14 million people in the US, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Italy will take part in the exercise, reports the AP. "It's not looking at earthquakes as doom and gloom," says an organizer, but rather being prepared for a temblor as a community. DC, Maryland, and Virginia are taking part for the first time following their quake last year. Perhaps New England should consider joining in. (Read more earthquake stories.)
