Stocks are ending moderately higher after overcoming a few early stumbles. The Dow Jones industrial average gained 102 points, or 0.6%, to close at 16,433. The Standard & Poor's 500 index increased eight points, or 0.5%, to 1,961. The Nasdaq composite climbed 26 points, or 0.5%, to 4,822.

Energy stocks didn't join the advance and fell along with the price of oil. US crude sank 3% today after Goldman Sachs said a global glut of oil could push prices as low as $20 a barrel. Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.19%. (More US economy stories.)
