(Newser) – A 5-year-old Irish boy has his dog to thank for saving his life after he became trapped in a tumble dryer Sunday, Irish News reports. The machine started automatically after Riley Gedge-Duffy, who has Down's syndrome, climbed in and closed the door, ITV News reports. The family dog, Teddy, started "barking like mad and running backwards and forwards to the tumble dryer," says Riley's dad. Riley's mom heard "banging and crashing," pulled the boy out, and poured cold water over him. He's now hospitalized with bruises and burns to his arms, back, and head, but it could have been much worse: "It doesn't ... bear thinking about what might have happened if the dog had not been there," Riley's dad says.
