Scary incident at the Mall of America in Minnesota on Friday: A 5-year-old boy fell from a third-floor balcony, and police are investigating witness accounts that a man pushed or threw him, reports CNN. "The child did suffer significant injuries," says Bloomington police chief Jeff Potts. Police detained the man suspected of deliberately causing the child to fall, and he remains in police custody.

A mall-goer tells WCCO that a woman believed to be the boy's mother began yelling after he fell. “She was screaming, ‘Everyone pray, everyone pray. Oh my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge.'" The boy remains hospitalized as police try to figure out exactly what happened. "At this time, we do not believe that there is a relationship between the child or the family of the child" and the suspect, says Potts. (More Mall of America stories.)
