(Newser) – Rep. Ilhan Omar went back to where she comes from Thursday—and they were delighted to see her. A crowd of cheering supporters, some with signs saying "Welcome back," greeted the Democrat when she landed at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "Home sweet home," Omar tweeted, sharing video of the greeting. The warm welcome followed a week of controversy over President Trump's tweets about Omar—an American citizen who came from Somalia to the US as a child—and other minority lawmakers going back "to the places from which they came," and his supporters' chants of "send her back" when he spoke about Omar at a rally Wednesday.

Earlier Thursday, Omar called Trump a "fascist" at an impromptu press conference in Washington, DC, the Hill reports. "This is not about me; this is about us fighting for what this country truly should be and what it deserves to be," she said. (Trump says he "wasn't happy" with the chant.)
