The woman who threw a drink at Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz outside a town hall meeting in June will spend 15 days in jail. Amanda Kondrat'yev, who pleaded guilty to assault on a member of Congress in August, was sentenced Monday to the jail time plus a year of probation and a $500 fine, reports NBC News. "Not ideal, but I will survive," tweeted the 35-year-old, who faced up to a year in prison. Gaetz, who attended the hearing, said he was "pleased with the court's decision," per the Hill.

In a pre-sentencing statement, the congressman said "only incarceration allows me to reinforce to my supporters and opponents alike that Free Speech is welcomed—but assault will not be tolerated." A lawyer for Kondrat'yev—a Democrat who mounted a challenge for Gaetz's seat in 2016—said he was "disappointed that Mr. Gaetz pushed for imprisonment as a sentence" though the judge recognized that "this was aberrant behavior on Ms. Kondrat'yev's part." Her sentence begins Dec. 2. (More on the case here.)
