The people who own coffee shops a mile apart in Oak Grove, Oregon, consider themselves friends more than competitors. So with Dave McAdams in hospice care, and his wife, Tina, wanting to be with him, Pixie Adams decided to close up her shop and run theirs for a day. "It's supposed to be friendship over business, community over competition," said Adams, KATU reports. She sent her customers to the Local Coffee Company, which had a record haul: $3,000 in donations and 142 sales. Adams opened Moonlight Coffee in 2017 after battling breast cancer per CNN. Dave McAdams has inoperable cancer of the lymph nodes. "He’ll be leaving in a few weeks," his wife said.

The McAdamses are also are a big part of the community. Their nonprofit gathers hygiene supplies and helps poor people do laundry. Dave's been a youth pastor and baseball coach. When he makes a video, he ends with the message, "You are deeply loved." And he's hard to miss: He gets around town in a car modeled after Ecto-1, the Ghostbusters vehicle. Adams plans to keep raising money at her own shop for Dave's medical expenses. "I want to do the very best I can for my community with as many years as I can," she said.
