(Newser) – The result is not yet official, but the Wall Street Journal says the outcome is now clear: Amazon workers in Alabama have voted against forming a union. Early results had been heading in that direction, and the Journal reports that the anti-union effort has eclipsed the magic number of 1,608 out of 3,215 votes cast. It appears the final tally won't be close: With 72% of returns in, 71% of workers at the company's Bessemer plant voted against a union. Politico has similarly called it, describing the outcome as a "bitter defeat for the labor movement." Both sides will get a chance to contest the results before the National Labor Relations Board certifies the count in about a week. (Read more Amazon stories.)
