Huma Abedin's memoir will be released Nov. 2, and in an excerpt from Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds published in Vogue, the former Hillary Clinton staffer and ex-wife of disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner recalls the moment when, as she writes, "life as I knew it was officially over." That would be a June morning in 2011 when she and Weiner were getting ready to head home after a weekend spent with friends amid Weiner's sexting scandal; until then, Weiner had insisted his Twitter account, where the lewd photo of himself had been briefly posted, was hacked. But that morning, he admitted to Abedin, "It's true. I sent the picture."

"I felt something explode inside my chest, and suddenly it was hard to breathe. I was simultaneously filled with rage and stunned to my core. It felt like a bolt of lightning had struck me and run straight through my body," Abedin writes. Newly pregnant at the time, Abedin was soon devastated again, when the press found out about the pregnancy and reported it before she could share the news herself. "A full decade later there are many days when I am in the shower or cooking dinner or browsing in a shop, and I hear the words 'I am pregnant' emerge from my lips, without any conscious intention, as though my brain is reminding me I never got to say it when it mattered most to me," she writes.
