The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot on the US Capitol held its final public hearing before the midterms on Thursday, in which it resumed making its case against Donald Trump and even voted unanimously at the end of the hearing to subpoena the former president to testify. The Hill, however, focuses specifically on "one of the most striking pieces of new evidence" presented during the hearing: video that showed top congressional leaders hunkered down in secure locations as the mob at the Capitol carried out their attack. At one point, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is seen on the phone with then-Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, noting as she watched the attack on TV: "Oh my gosh. They're just breaking windows ... They said somebody was shot. It's just, it's just horrendous."

She then added: "And all at the instigation of the president of the United States." In another clip, while talking face to face with House Majority Whip James Clyburn, Pelosi reacts to being informed that members on the floor are donning gas masks with a "Do you believe this?" Pelosi's resolve to carry out the duties of the day—i.e., complete the certification of Joe Biden's victory—was also on display. "We have got to ... finish the proceedings, or else they will have a complete victory," she says into her phone as she was being evacuated from the Capitol. A frustrated Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also makes an appearance in the footage, telling Pelosi, "I'm gonna call up the effing Secretary of [defense]," which he did shortly after.

The New York Times notes the behind-the-scenes video was shot over the course of five hours on Jan. 6 by Pelosi's daughter, documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi. Additional video that wasn't shown at the hearing was aired on CNN Thursday evening, showing just how angry Pelosi was that day, per the Washington Post. "I hope [Trump] comes, I'm gonna punch him out," an infuriated Pelosi told her chief of staff, who'd just informed her that the president had been "dissuaded" from coming to Capitol Hill, but that he could always change his mind. "I've been waiting for this. For trespassing on the Capitol grounds. I want to punch him out, and I'm gonna go to jail, and I'm gonna be happy." (More Jan. 6 hearings stories.)
