John Edwards’ former lover refuses to get a paternity test “now or in the future” for the baby Edwards denies he fathered, the Washington Post reports.  Rielle Hunter’s lawyer said she is a “private person” who is “not running for public office” and “wishes to maintain her privacy and her daughter's privacy.” Hunter and former Edwards fundraiser Andrew Young have said that Young is the father.

Edwards told ABC that he would "welcome participating in a paternity test," adding: “I know that it's not possible that this child could be mine because of the timing of events." Hunter’s sister had earlier challenged Edwards to take the test, according to ABC. She said her sister was not the “promiscuous person” the media has painted. "Somebody must stand up and defend my sister," she said. (More John Edwards stories.)
