Kucinich Says Edwards Lacks Integrity

Candidate furious over Edwards's call to limit the field on future debates

Dennis Kucinich took off the gloves yesterday, accusing Democratic rival John Edwards  of showing “a consistent lack of integrity” after Edwards suggested—privately, he thought—to Hillary Clinton that they cut down the field for future candidate forums to a smaller and “more serious” group. The sotto voce exchange was captured in an open mike after an NAACP forum Thursday.

Edwards tried to explain away the remark by saying he wasn't trying to bar also-ran candidates like Kucinich, but convene smaller groups for individual discussions. In a interview with the AP, a furious Kucinich charged Edwards with “trying to rig an election.”
In the 2004 presidential race, Kucinich threw his support behind Edwards after he dropped out of the race. (More Dennis Kucinich stories.)
