(Newser) – Actor Isaiah Washington, fired from hit ABC-TV series Grey's Anatomy for an anti-gay slur, has landed a new role at rival NBC, the Los Angeles Times reports. Washington, who played brilliant surgeon Preston Burke, will hang up his scrubs for a lab coat in at least six episodes of a new Bionic Woman.

The actor was canned from Grey's after a homophobic slur against castmate T.R. Knight, which he then repeated at the Golden Globes.  "He's a wonderful actor and a great performer, and he became available," said new NBC boss Ben Silverman, in  announcing the move. Washington said he's "looking forward to getting back to work." (Read more Isaiah Washington stories.)
