The New York City hospital where Giants star Plaxico Burress was treated after accidentally shooting himself in the leg failed to notify authorities about the gunshot wound, reports the New York Times. State law requires officials to report gunshot wounds to the police. An employee at the hospital, New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, has been suspended pending an investigation.

“There was no cover-up on the part of the hospital. It's clear that not reporting a gunshot wound is a violation of our policies,” said a hospital spokeswoman. “When a patient comes into the emergency room with a gunshot wound, it does not matter who the patient is."
