Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is a free man once again, the News reports. Kilpatrick left prison at 12:35 this morning, after spending 99 days of a 4-month sentence in an isolated cell on obstruction of justice charges related to an affair he had with his chief of staff. “He’s upbeat. He’s not bitter,” said Kilpatrick’s lawyer. “He wants to get on with his life.”

Media swarmed the jail to catch a glimpse of Kilpatrick, 38. Ten men in top coats, hats, and ties tried to hold back the press, resulting in a minor scuffle, with one TV crew losing a camera. The normally loquacious Kilpatrick said nothing as he left, headed for a flight to Texas and a job interview tomorrow. (More Kwame Kilpatrick stories.)
