Joey Chestnut won the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest today at Coney Island but had to share the spotlight with archrival Takeru Kobayashi, who did not compete and was arrested for trespassing at the end of the event, reports the New York Post. Chestnut gobbled "only" 54 dogs in 10 minutes, a far cry from the record 68 he inhaled last year. "Of course, I wanted to set a record, but it was hot out there," he explained.

Kobayashi, who couldn't make a deal with the promoter and sat out this year's display of gluttony, caused a minor disturbance when he attempted to rush the stage after Chestnut captured his fourth straight crown. "What I saw was not criminal but desperation," said a rep for the promoter, which has been feuding with the Japanese sensation. Said Chestnut: "If he was real man, he’d be on the stage."
