Sarah Palin plays a relatively small role in Meghan McCain’s book—after all “I was on the road for 18 months as opposed to Sarah Palin’s 60 days,” she writes in the Daily Beast. Yet in every interview she gave, Palin was the No. 1 topic of conversation. (For evidence, click here.) McCain was flabbergasted. “Everyone knows there is a media obsession with Sarah Palin,” she writes. “But I don’t know if everyone has quite realized that the obsession has become a fetishization.”

The media lavishes Palin—and her various impersonators—with attention, “even, dare I say, eclipsing the obsession with President Obama.” What’s more, these “Sarahbots” seem to be the only women garnering any attention in politics. McCain also reveals that Palin “made it known to me via an email to a third party that she was not pleased” with the book. “It seems the Sarah Palin media obsession goes both ways,” McCain concludes. “They are both mutually obsessed with one another.” (More Sarah Palin stories.)
