Unarmed Man Shot by Minneapolis Police Has Died

Jamar Clark died Monday night, a day after police shot him in a highly controversial incident on a Minneapolis street. The 24-year-old's shooting and subsequent death sparked protests Monday night, the AP reports; hundreds of people blocked traffic for hours on an interstate, ending with 42 arrests. The incident that led to the shooting started when police were called to the scene of an assault around 12:45am Sunday, and arrived to find Clark allegedly interfering with paramedics who were trying to help the victim. As police officers attempted to calm Clark, a scuffle ensued, and Clark, who was not armed, was shot. Tuesday, Minnesota authorities said they have a few partial videos of the incident, but they won't be released publicly during the course of the investigation.

Those videos are from sources including an ambulance, a mobile police video station, a public housing camera, surveillance video from a building across the street, and citizens' cellphone videos. There is no police body camera or dashcam footage, and none of the videos show the incident in full, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Some witnesses say Clark was handcuffed when he was shot; police have denied that, but authorities said Tuesday the claim was being investigated: There were “handcuffs at the scene, and we are still examining whether or not they were on him” when police shot, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's superintendent said.
