(Newser) – Tobias Ellwood's brother was killed in a terrorist bombing in Bali in 2002, and on Wednesday, the conservative UK member of parliament found himself in the middle of a terrorist attack on his own home turf. Ellwood was on the scene when a police officer was stabbed in the courtyard in front of parliament, and the former Army officer jumped into action rather than retreating to safety, giving the officer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and applying pressure to his wounds, the BBC reports. The officer did not survive, but Ellwood, whose hands and face were bloodied in his rescue attempt, is being hailed by his colleagues as a hero. The attacker was also killed, as were two victims he mowed down in his car. (Read more terrorist attack stories.)
