(Newser) – A Florida woman jailed for performing medical procedures without a license wasn't subtle about the fact that she wanted a witness in the case—her husband—dead, according to authorities. "In the Polk County vernacular, this lady's a nut," Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday in announcing Jesusadelaida "Jesse" Lopez had been charged with solicitation to commit first-degree murder. While awaiting trial on charges related to a weight loss clinic and gym she operated, Lopez had begun conversing with a man she called her "angel," reports the Washington Post. But the man she eventually enlisted for "removing a tree" from her yard, before offering up $2,000 and a photo of her husband, was actually an undercover detective, police say. And not the first to fool the 40-year-old, per WFTS.

In 2018, Lopez had been caught posing as a registered nurse at an Auburndale weight loss clinic, where she allegedly performed mole removals and vampire facelifts, and sold drugs without a prescription. She reached a plea deal and received probation, but she soon resumed operations out of a business called Jesse's Gym, authorities say. Thrown in the clink, she allegedly blabbed about wanting her estranged husband killed and, in a handwritten note, described to the undercover cop the car of "the main key witness" and gave the time he was likely to be at work, per the Post. "Can it be like an accident, like a robbery gone wrong or something that cannot come back to me," she allegedly wrote to the detective, signing off, "Burn this letter xoxo." Judd said a "giggling" Lopez admitted to the plot when confronted, per WFTS. (Read more murder plot stories.)
