(Newser) – Grave diggers working at a Connecticut cemetery Wednesday noticed "a big pile of dirt," one says, and upon walking over to investigate, discovered an empty grave filled with water and what appeared to be two dead chickens. Police say it appears someone dug up and removed remains from Hartford's Agudas Achim Cemetery days before the grave diggers found the empty grave, NBC Connecticut reports. The man the grave belonged to had been buried in 1958, WFSB reports, noting that his remains were likely skeletal. "This is a one of a kind horrific incident," says a member of the Hebrew Funeral Association who takes care of a nearby cemetery, noting he's never heard of such an incident before. The investigation is ongoing. (Read more cemetery stories.)
