(Newser) – Police searching the home of a suspected pedophile got a huge surprise when they opened a closet—and found a missing teenage boy, Deutsche Welle reports. Police stumbled on the 15-year-old Friday in Recklinghausen, a small city in Germany, and identified him as someone who vanished from a shelter in 2017. The 44-year-old suspect, a possible child-porn peddler, was arrested along with his 77-year-old father. The father was later released but the younger one is being held for alleged "serious sexual offense," CNN reports.

Authorities say there's no evidence the boy was held against his will, but that's cold comfort to the mother—who says she barely recognized her child when they were reunited. He looked like "a broken old man," she told a German tabloid. "The man with whom he was found must have manipulated Marvin. I could go crazy thinking about the things done to him." The boy is still in police protection and hasn't been named for legal reasons. (Read more pedophile stories.)
