UPDATE Nov 14, 2022 11:03 AM CST

The suspected gunman in a shooting at the University of Virginia that claimed three lives Sunday night is in custody. All three victims were members of the school's football team, reports the Daily Progress, which identifies them as wide receiver Devin Chandler, linebacker D'Sean Perry, and wide receiver Lavel Davis. Two others who remain unidentified were injured, and Fox News reports they're also members of the football team, which played Saturday in Pittsburgh. The suspect is identified as 22-year-old Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., who was on the team's roster in 2018 as a freshman, though he didn't appear in any games, per the Washington Post.

Police have not speculated about a motive in the shooting, which took place about 10:30pm Sunday at a parking garage on school grounds. The university and the surrounding city of Charlottesville and county of Albermarle canceled school on Monday as a manhunt for the suspect ensued. He was captured Monday morning, though details about that were not immediately available. UVa President James E. Ryan called it “an unimaginably sad day" in Charlottesville. “My heart is broken for the victims and their families and all those who knew and loved them,” Ryan said. “When I see my students I see my own kids.”
