Perhaps it was because it occurred at the Fiesta Bowl that web memesters got so much mileage from a video of a Boise State band member whacking on a cowbell with nary a hint of fiesta to be found on her face. Cut the mockery and stifle the spinoffs, Brenna Ehrlich writes on Mashable, because the girl is blind. Also, why was it funny in the first place?

A fellow collegian broke the news to the laughing masses via Twitter: “To everybody talking bout ‘Sad cowbell girl’ please be nice. She’s a blind student at Boise State and the nicest girl.” Miraculously, pranksters appear to have listened, and pulled the video and the inevitable Blue Oyster Cult mashups. “I guess that there are limits to what even the most hardened of humorists will tolerate,” Ehrlich writes. “Who would have thunk it?” (More viral video stories.)
