Eight Germans and two British brothers are using Pakistan as a safe haven from which to plan Mumbai-style terror shootings across Europe, a Pakistani security official tells the AP. The group is coordinating the plot by phone with acquaintances in Germany and London. Pakistani, British, and German intelligence officials are monitoring those calls. “They have been talking about and looking for facilitators and logistics they need there,” the official said.

The plot has sparked a furious wave of CIA drone attacks, one of which was successful in killing one of the Britons, according to the official, whose team has been tracking the British brothers for nearly a year, and the Germans for more than six months. US and European officials say they believe the plot is still in its early stages, and not serious enough to raise the terror threat level. (For more background, click here.)
