William wanted to 'make sure my mother didn't miss out on today'

Prince William's choice of a wedding ring made today's engagement announcement a bit more special: He gave Kate Middleton the blue sapphire and diamond ring his father gave Diana in 1981, the Guardian reports. William explained it was "my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today." (PopEater reports that the ring originally went to Harry, but he happily gave it up for his brother.
