The small British island of Jersey has been rocked by the mystery stabbing deaths of three children and three adults, reports the BBC. The suspected killer, a 30-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital for emergency surgery after trying to kill himself at the crime scene, said police. The dead, including two women and a man, have not been identified yet, but early reports suggest they are from a single family from Poland.

"I could see small legs, small enough to be a child, being carried into the back of an ambulance," said one neighbor describing the scene as police and paramedics arrived. The small island of 91,000 people, just off the coast of France, is considered relatively safe from violent crime. "Dealing with multiple deaths of men, women and particularly young children has shaken the force," said the lead investigator. (More Jersey stories.)
