Facebook Overhauls Privacy Controls

Facebook will go live with a host of changes over the next few days designed to address its ever-present privacy concerns. Now, instead of hiding all your privacy controls in the account settings menu, Facebook will display a drop-down menu next to each element of your profile, letting you dictate who can see it. “You have told us that ‘who can see this?’ could be clearer across Facebook, so we have made changes,” the company wrote on its blog. “Your profile should feel like your home on the web.”

Other changes include:

• You won’t have to worry about people tagging embarrassing photos of you anymore; you’ll now have to approve tags before they show up.
• You can now tag people you aren’t friends with—though they’ll have to approve it.
• You can now add a location to any post.
• The “Everyone” share setting has been renamed “Public” to be less misleading.
• The "View Profile As" option, which lets you see your profile as it appears to others, will now be accessible in the top right corner of your profile.
