(Newser) – Whether Republicans will need a podium for Herman Cain at Saturday's debate won't be resolved today. He told CNN that he will make a decision on whether to continue in a "few days." Earlier, he gave a defiant speech in Ohio during which he blasted the "character assassination" he is enduring. "They are attacking my character, my reputation and my name in order to try and bring me down," he said of critics.

Last night, Cain wrote a letter to fundraisers assuring them that the allegations of an affair with Ginger White were false. "I do know Ms. White," he wrote. "I have helped her financially at times over the past few years, just as I have helped many friends and acquaintances throughout the years. I thought Ms. White was a friend in need of a supportive hand to better her life. Ms. White has made it apparent that she was abusing the friendship." White, meanwhile, offered up more details of what she says was an "on-and-off" affair for more than a decade. Click here for that. (Read more Herman Cain 2012 stories.)
